• For natural gas and electric heat, the amount of energy assistance you are approved for will be applied to unpaid heating charges from regular meter reading dates from October 1 through May 15.

• For propane and fuel oil, the amount of energy assistance you are approved for will be applied to unpaid heating charges resulting from fills occurring July 1 through April 30.

You may also be eligible for energy assistance if heat is included in the cost of your rent or you pay your heating costs directly to your landlord in addition to the cost of your rent.

NOTE: Heating Assistance CANNOT be used:

• to pay heating bills for non-residential buildings such as a shop or business;
• to fill extra storage tanks;
• as a “credit” for fuel to be delivered after April 30;
• or to reimburse a heating bill or expense already paid.

• copies of check stubs,
• 1040 federal tax form (for self-employment only),
• other proof of other income including Social Security, unemployment, insurance, pension funds, disability payments, etc.).

If you paid child support, that can be deducted when calculating your income eligibility, so you will need to provide proof of child support paid in the past three months. You must also send a copy of your most recent heating or electric bill (if you have electric heat). You must say if you have received any other help paying for your heat this winter.

• Have a shut-off or disconnection scheduled to occur between October 1 and March 15;
• Are required to pay cash-on-delivery and have an empty or near empty fuel tank (less than 20 percent) or;
• Have an eviction notice for non-payment if heat is included in the rent.
